Design of new potroom traffic rules at Nordural aluminium smelter in Iceland. The potroom traffic study was performed to test behaviour of a new type of anode transporting vehicles, including testing of new traffic rules. A 3D simulation model has been build to analyse the impact of traffic rules. The simulation model consists of the complete potroom layout including over 500 pots, all roads with their dimensions, sections, forklifts, failures and maintenance schedules as well as interference by hot metal transport. The simulation provided details about safety and efficiency in operating the potroom. Results of study are used in the evaluation process of purchasing new anode transport vehicles.
