Simulation of the port extension "Deurganck & Saeftinghe dock" in Antwerp, Belgium. The port of Antwerp is located at the entry of the river Scheldt and can be reached via the Westerschelde estuary. In 2003, the port authority ordered a simulation study be performed in order to analyze the impact of the port extension of both the Deurganckdok and the Saeftinghedok. The simulation study proved that the port entrance for sea ships through the Westerschelde estuary had sufficient capacity for both the then planned extensions. With the results of the simulation model, the port authority gave final approval for the build of the Deurganckdok which was realized in July 2005.
